    PONTIAC RIGHT-TO-WORK MEETING RESCHEDULED DUE TO HUGE TURNOUT

    Teamsters Local 179 officers and agents attended a scheduled Right-to-Work meeting in Pontiac on Thursday, April 16th.  However the meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 22nd due to the huge turnout.

    After nearly 3 years of struggle, members of Local 4468 scored a huge victory when they overwhelmingly ratified their first contract last month. Lexington Waste Management workers first started organizing for a union in 2012.  Since then it has been an uphill battle to negotiate and sign their first contract.

    I posted this picture one year ago today. As we finish up the week we recognize 911 Dispatchers and I sit to reflect in my almost 25 years of doing this job. When I started this job I wanted to get my foot in the door to be a cop, I sure am glad I changed my mind and stuck with being a dispatcher. It has been a good ride and a great career.

    On Wednesday, fast food workers walked off the job in 230 cities, staging the largest-ever strike in their movement aimed at a $15 minimum wage and the right to form a union. The movement began with a single strike in New York City at the end of 2012 but has grown increasingly larger as the Fight for 15 movement has staged nine other days of coordinated strikes since then.
