  • Statement from President Mike Spor, IBEW Local 1464 Strike
    Updated On: Nov 03, 2022

    IBEW Local 1464

Wabtec Corp. was formed by the merger of Westinghouse Air Brake Company and Motive Power in 1999. Wabtec acquired General Electric Transportation in 2018. The GE KCR facility was taken over by the Wabtec Corporation and negotiated a new contract with IBEW Local 1464 effective February 25th, 2019 through September 25, 2022. Wabtec is a company with over 150 years in business, that is based out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and operates in more than 50 countries worldwide with over 27, 000 employees. Wabtec had a 2021 revenue of over 7.8 billion dollars. The facility that is represented  by IBEW Local 1464 is located at 10707 North Pomona Avenue, Kansas City Missouri. IBEW Local 1464 represents 118 employees at the Wabtec KCR facility with an additional 9 employees who are un-represented at that facility. The Collective Bargaining Agreement between IBEW Local 1464 and Wabtec Corp. expired on September 25th 2022, and we are currently under a rolling extension that can be terminated with 10 days’ notice by either side. A vote was held on 9/21/22 and a tentative agreement was rejected by membership. Both parties have agreed to meet virtually on Friday September 30th but the major issue that we face is misclassification of workers that have resulted  in lower wages. Wabtec references wage comparisons for assemblers, however employees of the KCR perform heavy industrial remanufacturing of locomotive traction motors. The average hourly wage of employees at the Wabtec KCR facility is less than $21.00 dollars an hour. A strike vote has been scheduled for Friday September 30th.

    Key Points:
